Goodbye Costa Rica..

Hello my name is Raelen Mccoyne and Im going to be an incoming senior at tf south.  I was fortunate  enough to attended this language emmersion trip with the help of family and friends.

Last night, our CR family came over to see us one last time. After many laughs and picture taking, my two roommates (kori & Viviana) and I went to a floral shop to pick out a bouquet of flowers because she did the same for us our first day. Then we went to Office Depot to buy a frame and print out the picture of the three of us and her family that we took minutes before. When we came back we had to sneak the flowers in the house so she wouldn’t see! Then we wrote a letter to our mom tica  that showed our greatest appreciation for all that she’s done and the moments we shared. When we were finally done we surprised our moma tica with our gift to her! The expression  on her face was pure joy followed by tears. We hugged and told her how much we will miss her and how thankful we are. Soon after everyone was crying! Then we had our last big dinner together.

I have been reflecting over these past two weeks about my experience. Within the first day I knew I was going to have a true Costa Rica experience when our moma tica was the last ones to pick us up due to “tica time” (always running late!). Then our next day here, our mama tica took us to a family party to celebrate her granddaughters birthdays. We have been treated like a part of the family and I’m so grateful for all of the family members kindness. We mostly hung out with our mama ticas  daughter and her grandson that is 18. I will always value our late night conversation over coffee where we talked about various topics. I think I’ve come a long way on my spanish as well. I’m able to comprehend faster and have the confidence to hold a conversation. Thank you again mama tica!

It’s bitter sweet that we are leaving today. I really miss my family back home but I’ll also miss this new family I have here in Costa Rica.

We’re leaving Heredia in an hour to go to the airport in San José. There we will fly to Mami and

have a small layover. Then we will be on our way back to Chicago!

This was an opportunity of a life time!
